William Weinrich Seminar
February 19, 2018 to February 20, 2018
Professor William Weinrich of our Ft. Wayne Seminary is the author of the Concordia Commentary on St. John. Volume 1 (of 3) was published last spring, and is a treasure to the church. Last February at Christ Lutheran Church he held an audience of 15 pastors and several laymen captive with his beauiful understanding of this unique gospel.
I think that what makes his interpretation of John so special is his intimate knowledge of the Church Fathers, those Greats of the ages that have been all but ignored by Protestantism, and most of Lutheranism. They had something that the church today does not. But Dr. Weinrich brings it to our door.
Not only is his methodology the key to understanding St. John's gospel, in my opinion. But once you get the hang of it (the Weinrichian method, if you will), his method then becomes the key to interpreting all of Scripture.
Though the commentary is technical, and makes full use of the Biblical languages, I think it is accessible to the studious and thoughtful layman as well, because he takes the time to translate, and explain.
The seminar is open to all clergy, and any laity who are willing to work very hard for two days. The fee is $100, which includes a home cooked lunch both days, and snacks throughout the day. Please contact Pastor Dean Kavouras ASAP if interested: firstname.lastname@example.org .
We will intone the first Versicle of Matins at 9:00 AM sharp, and class will begin at 9:30 AM. All told we will have about 10 hours of quality time at the feet of the master. Registered guests are also invited to the Kavouras home Monday at 5:00 for happy hour, and dinner. (RSVP
As indicated above this is "Weinrich 3.0" for Christ Lutheran Church, and God willing, the third of many.
